London loves to laugh which is one of the reasons why there are so many brilliant comedy clubs located here.  Whatever your taste in comedy, this is where you can find it.  From stand up comedy to alternative comedians, London has it all.  The biggest difficulty is choosing among the countless venues on offer while you are in London on your vacation staying in Backpacker Hostels London.

We have taken a look at the comedy scene and highlighted some of the best.

The Angel Comedy Club in Islington is one of the most popular venues – but be warned, it fills up very quickly so if you are planning to go, you must go early and be prepared to queue. No two nights are the same.  There is a resident group of comedians who are well known for their improvisation skills, as well as numerous comedians who like to try out new routines on audiences.

By far the biggest comedy venue in London is The Comedy Store which attracts over 3,500 people a week.  Whatever your preference, the Comedy Store can meet it. There is topical news based comedy, stand up comedians from all over the world as well as improvisations and alternative comedy.  You can even try your own hand at comedy by taking the microphone in the talent search held on the last Monday of every month.

If you prefer alternative comedy, then the Laugh Out Loud comedy club is the place to go.  There are three venues in Camden, Brixton and Islington – all easily accessible by tube.  The Laugh Out Loud comedy club attracts many comedians who are on the Edinburgh Fringe circuit so you can be guaranteed a great night out while a resident at London youth hostels.

Leicester Square Theatre is easily found in the very centre of the West End, within walking distance of Trafalgar Square.  It is an incredible venue which attracts top comedians including Ricky Gervais on occasion.  The line up of acts changes rapidly, so you need to check in advance to see who is appearing.  Booking may be necessary as some shows can get sold out way in advance.

Live at the Chapel is one of the most unusual venues. This is a working church and has an area dedicated to comedy.  It has a reputation for attracting some of the best comedians around and large crowds can be guaranteed at every performance.

Tattershall Castle is a boat moored permanently on Westminster Embankment.  For people who can tear their eyes away from the nighttime views of London’s riverside setting, this is the setting for a fantastic Boat Show Comedy Club held mainly at weekends. Described as London’s finest floating comedy club and nightclub, you can be sure of a fantastic night out. It only ever books the best comedians, many of whom are polishing up acts in preparation for tours and television shows.

Another weekend venue that is great to visit is Up the Creek which is not too far from beautiful Via Limehouse hostel London.  Tie in a day time visit to the splendours of historic Greenwich with an evening trip to Up the Creek.  You will not be disappointed as it features many of the best up and coming performers and stand up comics. Getting back into central London afterwards is no problems as there are lots of night buses and trains.
